Never scold him for not using the litter box. This will frighten and confuse him.

Start in a small space (one room) and then moving up to the whole house. Organic litter made from paper is perfect. Place the box in an area that your mini dwarf rabbit tends to use most frequently for elimination. Put some fecal pellets in the box to help give him the right idea. Then add a handful of hay next to the litter box a mini dwarf rabbit likes to chew on something during usage. Put him in it often especially after eating, and hopefully it will get the idea.

Also keep him away from something soft they love to do their business on it.
Try to recognize when your bunny is about to do its business might save some cleaning.
If your mini dwarf rabbit pushes out its bottom and tail he is about to pee.
In the early days follow your bunny everywhere and when your bunny pees in the wrong spot scold him firmly without raising your voice. Put him in his Litter box and clean the spot with some vinegar. Mini dwarf rabbits don’t like the smell of it and will avoid the area for another try.

Spayed and neutered rabbits are easier to litter-train and more reliable and gradually stop spraying.

Give your mini dwarf rabbit lots of praise and maybe a little treat whenever it uses the litter box. Make him feel special and at the center of attention.
With any luck it will want to repeat the experience.

Mini Dwarf Rabbit

My mini dwarf rabbit Spike

Spike is a mini dwarf rabbit, a polish mini dwarf rabbit. He is small bunny and he weight’s about 3 pounds. The Polish Dwarf is coming from in England. His name “Polish Dwarf” comes from his shiny coat. He is similar to the Netherland Dwarf. He is also very petite and lively in his behavior. The mini dwarf Polish rabbit comes in the same colors as the Netherland Dwarf. Medium-size or larger bunny rabbits are a little bit calmer than mini dwarf rabbits.

Our bunny Holland Lop Rabbit was more relaxed, a lying around relaxing bunny. Fuzzums was bigger and heavier so my daughter couldn’t handle him as good as Spike.

Spike our mini dwarf rabbit is more interested in everything around him.
A mini dwarf rabbit is easier to take care of than a larger breed. The larger breeds need much more food and a bigger housing.
Spike, our mini dwarf rabbit is perfect for our daughter and we love him so much. We got him as an adult, so we new his size. My daughter handled him before we adopted Spike to make sure he is fine with my daughter.

Mini dwarf rabbits and all the other breeds, do not like to be lifted and held they must be gradually taught to tolerate it. Spike was used to being held and he accepted my daughter right away.

He also was already house-trained and used his litter box. A mini dwarf rabbit just like dogs and cats prefer not to pee where they eat and sleep. But remember when litter-box train a rabbit to praise and be consistent. Watch your mini dwarf rabbit in the early days and follow him everywhere. If an accident happens just clean the spot with some vinegar. A mini dwarf rabbit doesn’t like the smell and he will avoid the area for another try. Also make sure there are droppings inside the litter box.

We got our first bunny Holland Lop rabbit as a baby and he used his Liter box right away. So there wasn’t any training from us.

Spaying and neutering a rabbit is important. It is important for their health and happiness and there are easier to litter-train.
There is a saying that an adolescent mini dwarf rabbit often sprays urine. A mini dwarf rabbit performs the sexual act on people’s legs, slippers and other pets when there are not fixed. Our first rabbit started circling our legs and he loved my daughter’s balloons. That was the sign for us that it was the right time to go ahead with the procedure.

Spike our mini dwarf rabbit was also neutered and we didn’t need to take care of it.

I recommend getting a ∫ from the shelter. You can see his size as on Adult, see if you can handle him, asked if he is House trained and he is for sure already fixed.
And the imported part he is getting a nice and loving new home.

More about our mini dwarf rabbit Spike in my next post.

My mini dwarf rabbit Spike

This site is about my mini dwarf rabbit spike.
